POLITICALLY CORRECT ON SPEED

U of I

You know, there comes a point when being politically correct becomes ridiculous. I mean, we now have a baseball team

called the "Biscuits" because everyone was afraid of offending someone. It will come to a point where great

football teams won't be known as: The Cowboys, The Redskins, or even The Bears, for fear of offending the animal

kingdom. Could there be a team called The Daisys? or wil the horticulturist be offended?? WHEN WILL THE MADNESS

STOP??? LOL

INSANITY

BEHEADING

I know people are against the insanity defense but it turns out that those who are committed to a mental hospital

spend more time there than if they pleaded guity and went to prison

DOUBLE MURDER

SLEEPING BAG MURDERS

They don't say what the differences are, but I remember the first two in AZ, and it would make me wonder about a

serial killer.

MURDER IN SOUTH CAROLINA

ANTIDERESSANTS

I realize the discussion is about teens and antidepressants, but I can say from personal experience that I have

taken Zoloft because of a chemical imbalance in my brain following a medical procedure. The imbalance lead to

depression, which the Zoloft helped straightened out. Because of a medical crisis, my brain temporarily stopped

producing serotonin, which lead to my depression. Zoloft, Celexia and others help replace this neurotransmitter that

your brain natually produces. It doesn't put chemicals in the brain that weren't already there in the first place.

And while taking it, I didn't become suicidal or have violent thoughts. But again thats from personal experience.

I'm no longer taking them because my brain is, again, producing the serotonin on its own.

PAINTINGS

ART THEFT

Okay, why does anyone steal paintings? First of all, its broadcast all over the news, everyone knows what was

stolen. You can't display it or let anyone know you have it, so whats the purpose if stealing it?

DEATH SQUAD

HOMELESS

I guess the homeless should be glad they are here instead of Brazil. At least here no one is trying to exterminate

them.

HUGE OOPS

IMMIGRATION LAWS

This goes to show that we have the tools in place to prevent terrorist from getting into the country if they would

just USE them.

NEW OVERTIME REGULATIONS

OVERTIME

If you read the list of those that are exempt, those are the ones that consistantly work overtime. So, I can see how

it might help but, there are some under the $100,000 that will end up working more hours to cover the jobs the

others had. I know when I worked at Home Depot, the managers and assistant managers got paid straight salary, no

mater what hours they put in, so they would get the hourly wage earners to work more hours to cover the jobs the

managers couldn't, like supervising product resets, which some vendors spent all night doing resets. Then the

managers wanted you to cut your overtime hours before the end of the pay period, meaning your dept always ended up

short handed during customer service hours. Just more work for the low man on the totem pole.

KOBE BRYANT

RAPE AND KOBE BRYANT

Look I don't want to offend anyone but I dont think any other rape victim, if she was as traumatized as this woman

said she was, would go out and have sex with two more men. I've known women who were raped. you were lucky if you

could innocently touch one of them without them going through the roof. Sure everyone reacts differently to trauma

but having sex again after being raped is a new one for the books.

COMICS

COMICSGoes to show that in this world with all the trouble in the news, people want their escapism. So much so that they

get upset if you take their comics away from them. SO don't touch our Peanuts!

Goes to prove a quote I've believed in from MacBeth, it was the three witches talking and one said, "Security is

mortal's chiefest enemy." Meaning that when man feels the most safe is when he is the most vunerable. Just as in

that article, just because a soldier is in a tank doesn't mean he can let his guard down. Some get too brave in

their armor feeling invincible, and that's when they get hurt. When you can't always identify your enemy, you cant

afford to let your guard down.

PARENTS ARRESTED FOR ABUSE

ABUSE

Any parent that would let the pet pit bull attack their own children as a from of punishment should be stripped

naked, doused with honey and staked to a fire ant bed. Thats not being a parent, that is being a sadist.

CLARENCE DARROW

FREED MAN

The famous trial lawyer from the Scopes Monkey Trial would have a field day with this story. He believed that

"better a guilty man go free than and innocent man go to prison." And that is exactly what happened here.

I guess when it comes to the federal government, there is no protecting your sources

ABU GHRAIB REVISTED.

According to the article, Maj.Gen. Fray's investigation blames the officers and Intelligence contractors for the abuse. But no officer above the Col. who was running the prison is being blamed for the abuse.

ARK. GIRL MISSING.

MISSING GIRL

Not only was this similar to a story line on Law and Order, but they got the idea from a real case. I can't find any documention but there was a case where a young girl went missing. All of the neighbors helped in the search, including a neighbor who recently had work done on his house, eventhough nothing appeared different about it. After a week, the police found the girl in a secret room that the neighbor had built under his garage, complete with a trap door, ventilation, electricity, bed and tv.

DRUG COST.

LOWER DRUG COST

Finally someone is willing to help people avoid the outrageous cost for perscription drugs. If these companies can afford to sell to Canada, then they can afford to do the same here. And I don't buy the claim that Glaxosmithkline makes with their ads that the money goes to fund other projects.

BIG BROTHER?

FBI

Wait a minute subpoena a group of people before they have done anything? Just for their political beliefs? This has the smack of George Orwell's "1984"

Why didn't they do that before the Democratic Convention? Oh wait a minute, they did, sort of. They created a "dead zone" 10 blocks in every direction of the convention site. Businesses lost tons of money because of it.

What happened to freedom of speech and the freedom to express your self?

GETTING AWAY WIH MURDER

RITUAL MURDER

Maybe Mark Hacking and Scott Peterson should have taken their wives to Malaysia to kill them and then blame it on a ritual to pick the right lottery numbers. Thats what appears to have happened here, the judge set the men free after he determined that the prosecuter did not prove his case.

Ramasamy Palaniappan, 39; Michael Anthonysamy, 37; and Christopher Earthiam, 31, were released from custody and free to go because the judge felt that some of the key witnesses lied about the occult murder of 35-year-old Carolyn Janice Ahmad of Dulith, MN, who married a doctor from Maylaysia.

OIL FOR FOOD PROGRAM

This is an example of why we couldn't wait around for the sanctions against Sadam Hussein to be enough to cause his overthrow. No matter how much his people suffered, he was going to get what he wanted. and under the very nose of the people who said that these sanctions would work. Were they blind??

TERROR LIST.

TERROR THREAT

As much as I want to believe the gov't is being straight with us, after Watergate, its hard to believe them just on their say so. Because this is an election year, we all know reports can be manipulated into saying what ever we want them to say.

KID FALLS OUT A WINDOW AND LIVES

WINDOW SAFETY

When I worked at Home Depot, they taught us that for someone building a two story house, build codes require safety glass on windows on the second floor. These are similar to the safety Glass on your car windshield because they shatter yet stay together so that nothing can pass through. Such as a kid falling against the window will shatter it but the window will hold together and keep the kid from falling out.

MOSQUE

I guess the insurgents know their history. They are doing the same thing the Nazi did during WWII, when they occupied the Abby and Monte Cassino.

MONTE CASSINO

The Nazi took up residence in the abby at Monte Cassino because they knew it was sacred and that the allies wouldn't attack the abby for fear of upsetting the local residents. From Feb, 8 1944 until May 18, 1944, Monte Cassino was attacked and bombed. The Nazi soldiers just took shelter in the Abby. When the allies finally reached the abby on May 18, the Nazi had abbandoned it.

The surgents are taking a page out of history, knowing that if the Americans attack and damage the Mosque, the Iraqis would be upset with the Americans.

History does repeat its self.

CAT IN COCKPIT

CAT ATTACKS CO-PILOT

I heard about this on the Tonight Show and thought Jay Leno made it up. Like he said, I guess those cockpit doors really work if a cat can get in. LOL

VIETNAM PARALLEL

IRAQI FORCES

I know many people have been comparing Iraq to Vietnam, but this article shows on definite similar aspect of the two wars. In Vietnam, no one knew who was friendly and who was VC. The same thing is happening in Iraq. They Iraqi forces complain that they are under equiped. but I believe the American forces aren't willing to turn over heavier arms to them until we can be sure that these same arms will not be turned against American forces.

American forces armed the South Vietnamese only to have those same people we were helping, gun down American soldiers.

My dad used to tell a story about when he was in Nam, at Da Nang to be percise. On that base there was a South Vietnamese barber who cut all the soldiers' hair and even used a straight razor to shave them. Once day my dad saw the body of that barber on the fence surrounding the base. When he inquired as to why the barber was killed, me dad was told that during the night, the guard on watch saw the barber stepping out the position of the gun placements and ammo dump for a rocket attack by the VC.

So, yes there is a definite comparison, in both countries its hard to tell friend from foe.

POSSIBLE TERRORIST SCOUT?

VIDEO TAPE

Why would anyone video tape a bank, a dam and other structures if you are a tourist? Most tourist want picture of the Grand Canyon, National Parks and such, not finanical building and dams.

PERCRIPTION DRUGS.

IMPORTING PERSCRIPTION DRUGS

The drug companies say that if Americans start importing their drugs from Canada or other contries, they (the companies) will lose money. Okay, my question is this, if it cost alot of money to produce these drugs, then why isn't the cost spread across the board? Why should Canada have a cheaper price than the United States? If the companies can afford to sell to Canada at a cheaper price, then they can afford to do the same here. Why should we make up the difference? And have you noticed the Glaxosmilthkline ads on tv, stating that all the money from one drug goes to finance another. In other words, we charge this amount so the tax payers won't have to fund research on other drugs. That seems to be the message they are going to give to rationalize the huge cost of drugs.

JAPANESE NUCLEAR PLANT.

JAPAN

I know this happened in Japan, but in light of the NRC eariler this month stating that they don't want to publish the findings of any of their inspections, how many of our plants are just as unsafe.

SILKWOOD

I dont' know if any of you ever saw the movie Silkwood, but its based on Karen Silkwood's life while working at the Kerr-McGee plutonium fuels production plant in OK. Now, I know the director took creative license with the movie, but he alleged that Karen had found reasons for not on her exposure but exposure of other workers at the plant and was going to turn of this information over to the AEC when her car was ran off the road. The director makes these assertions because the amount of radiation in Silkwoods body at the time of death and the manner in which the radiation entered her body. It is alleged that she had to comsume it because no one knowingly consumes radiation. So, its alleged she was poisoned to keep the information about the plant from coming to light. If our nuclear facilities are so bad tha the people in charge would kill to keep it secret, how safe are we?

PUTTING THINGS IN PERSPECTIVE

TRAFFIC FATALITIES

Last year, over 42 thousand people died on American roadways. In the 10 yrs of the Vietnam war, 58 thousand soliders died. Something to think about.

SAW THIS COMING FROM A MILE AWAY

BRYANT CASE

I don't know about any of you, but once the judge allowed the victim's panties and sexual history come in as evidence in the Kobe Bryant case. Unlike criminal court which requires "beyond reasonable doubt", civil court only requires a "preponderance of evidence" meaning enough evidence that makes it seem likely he did it. Just as in the O.J. Simpson case, he was aquitted in criminal court, but found guitly in civil. The penalties are different too. In Criminal court, the result could be jail or prison time. In civil, it is monetary penalties, which it has been alleged was the motive for the victim claiming she was raped.

PLANET OF THE APES.

KOKO THE GORILLA

I don't know how many of you all are "Planet of the Apes" fans, but we aren't all that far from having the ability to talk to ape. Koko the gorilla has mastered sign language. She knows over 1000 words and its not that she is mimicing what her trainer is saying.

KOKO'S KITTEN

In 1984, Koko asked her trainer for a kitten. Not believing she knew what she was asking, they gave her a book of animals and when she got to a picture of a kitten, she signed that it was what she wanted. They got her a kitten and she carried it around and treated it like it was her baby. But the kitten died. Heartbroken, she asked for another kitten. Since her first kitten, All Ball died after being hit by a car, she's had two more kittens, Lipstick and Smokey. Lipstick because its lips were red and Smokey because it was gray. But then Koko asked for something her tainer never thought she would ask for, a mate.

KOKO'S MATE

So, all this shows that apes do thave cognitive abilities to think and commnunicate. Although they may lack the same vocal abilities as humans, the idea of Plannet of the Apes isn't all that far fetched.

NUCLEAR WEAPONS

Bush hasn't be able to stop other countries from developing nuclear weapons. N. Korea has slowed down at all from its development of nuclear weapons, in spite of all the talking with the international communtiy. and neigther has Iran. Not a good sign.

RED ADAIR: HELLRAISER

RED ADAIR

I never was a huge John Wayne fan, but one of the best movies I saw of his was the movie "Hellraisers", the story of Red Adair. Red Adair, spent his life after WWII puting out fires most people would never want to be close to, oil well fires known as "Blow outs". He perfected his demolitions that he learned in the army in deveveloped shaped charges, which allowed him to control the blast and blow out fires like blowing out a candle. Althought he was in his 70s after Desert Storm, when the Iraqis set Kuwaiti oil fields on fire, his crew managed to do in 9 months what they were told would take 5 yrs.

Red Adair died today at the age of 89.

WHAT IS THE WORLD COMING TO?

FLORIDA MURDERS

It appears that the motive behind the terrible murders of six people in Florida was revenge of the theft of some clothes and an X-Box video game. Troy Victorino, 27, of Deltona, recruited four of his friends to break into the house and murder the six people inside with baseball bats and knives.

ON THIS DATE IN HISTORY

Two events happened on this day in history that without them, Kerry wouldn't be running for President. In 1782. George Washington ordered the creation of the purple heart. And on this date, in 1964, the alledged attack on an American ship in the gulf of Tonkin, started the Vietnam War. It turned what had been a civil war with American advisors training the South Vietnamese to fight, to Americans soldiers fighting the VC directly, which is why Kerry got wounded and received his 3 purple hearts

RICK JAMES

RICK JAMES

I have only one question about this, at his age, what is natural about his death?

12 YEAR OLD STEALS CAR

12 YR OLD STEALS CAR

The article states it was his ninth time stealing a car. HELLO? PARENTS??? How about putting them in jail for not controling their son. or make them pay for all the damages he has created. And if they can't control him, but him in juvenilie detention. Parents need to be held accountable.

DEATH PENALTY

DEATH PENALTY

What happened to the rule about not excuting those who were physically or mentally disabled?? Yes he was of right mind when the act occur, or so its believed, but at the time of the execution he wasn't. What if he had a stroke and was mentally impaired? Would they still execute him??

NRC

NRC

Acoording to the article, due to national security, the Nuclear Regulartory Commission will no longer make public any lapses in security that have been uncovered during inspections. They state that those who want to so us harm, can use those lapses and ways to get access to our nuclear power plants. Other's feel that keeping that information secret will only increase the distrust that the public has with the NRC and the safely of our nations nuclear power plants, and of those living near them. After Three Mile Island (1979), the public is concerned about their health and safety and feel they have a right to know if there is a need to be concerned. In 1979, the public wasn't warned until there was a release of radioactivity because of the malfunctiion of a valve.

TMI

Because the public wasn't notiifed until after the release of radioactivity, they have distrusted the NRC to keep them warned of potiential harm.

DAVENPORT

While Kerry and Bush were giving speeches just 5 blocks apart, bank robbers were taking advantage of the police providing security for those speeches to rob three banks in Davenport, IA. There is no information of the amounts taken but I'm sure it cost Davenport a whole lot more than just the overtime hours for the police providing security for the two candidates.

I was supposed to post this yesterday. While all the world's attention has been focused on Iraq. North Korea has gone and built an ICBM capable of reaching the continential United States. As the article states, they took missiles from the old Soviet Union and modified them to possiblly carry a nuclear warhead. and some of these can be launched from a submarine. Janes was the one who broke the story.

PELICAN PRISON

PELICAN PRISON

Anyone who has been following this site knows that I wrote about Limbaro's Standord Prison Experiment-1971, that proved that guards, left to their own devices, well turn around and abuse prisoners. He showed it, Abu Grhaib showed it, countless other prisons have shown it, why doesn't someone get the message and do something about it?

OOPS

SUICIDE

In this post 9/11 world, the simplest things can trigger and response. In the article someone saw a Janpanese business man write two words on a piece of paper and notified the flight crew as plane was preparing to take off from O'Hare Internation Airport. The plane taxied back to the terminal and all but that businessman were taken off and after questioning him. the flight was allowed to resume. The man had been reading a magazine article and writng down words he didn't understand to look up later.

Although I can't fine documentation on it, I heard on NBC Nightly News last week that a similar incident happened at LAX. Two women on board a plane saw these two arab looking young men moving from one seat to another. Because their activity looked susupicous, they notified the crew who questioned these men and found out that they were college students, but their student visas had expired so they sent home. Possible hijackers? Hopefully we will never know.

ROLLER DERBY

ROLLER DERBY

Some of you arent old enough to remember the days when Roller Derby was a televised sport just like football and baseball, or even boxing, with fans just as, passionate for the sport. I know an attempt was made not too many years ago to revive the sport, but as a former fan of the sport, their version was too orchestrated, or scripted. The original version put men and women in shorts, and roller skates and the only limits was you couldnt kill each other. Teams really hated each other just like the Bears hate the Steelers. The rivalries were fierce, and all out brawls were numerous with players being thrown over the rails into the seats. Like the article states it was a sexist sport where men watched women in short shorts, beating each other up. But it was as real as most boxing matches and just as entertaining.

WTO

WTO

Someone tell me if Im reading this wrong. The government wants to stop the subsidies that go to our farmers so that foreign farmers can export their produce to our country. First of all, and this is totally my opinion, since some of my family member are farmers, that it used to be the first farmers that brought their produce to the market basically set the price. Because they were first to market, they got the best price. Those who came later were judged on the quality of their produce and amount. Anyone who saw the movie Field of Dreams remembers that Sally Field was in a hurry to get her cotton to market so she could get the best price.

Subsidies came along and set the price across the board, whether you were first or last to market and sometimes didnt grow the crop, you were paid a certain amount. I had a co-worker at Home Depot who also farmed. He grew soybeans and other crops. As soon as his crop started growing, someone from the agricultural board came by, viewed his fields and set the price per acre based on the amount of crops he had growing. Then he had to make sure that those particular crops produced the projected yield. Not taking into account drought, excessive rainfall, crop damage through insects and nature. Of course, some farmers have crop insurance which protects their projected income. But its the big farmers, such as National news reporter, Sam Donaldson, who owns several farms, who can afford this crop insurance and can wait out any fluctuations in the market.

HURLBURT FIELD

HURLBERT FIELD

I saw this article and it took me back 35 yrs. From 1970-1972, I lived on Eglin AFB, although my father was supposed to be stationed at Hurlburt Field, there wasnt any base house available at that time for families. Actually, he was assigned to Holly AFB, which was where the Air Force had its squad of OV-2 planes. If anyone has seen Bat 21 with Danny Glover and Gene Hackman, then they have seen a OV-2, the plane that Danny Glover was flying. This was during the Vietnam War, and Eglin AFB actually owned most of the panhandle of Florida between Pensacola and Panama City. During that time it wasnt uncommon to be outside on a clear day and hear what sounded like thunder rolling in the distance and it was actually planes making simulated bombing runs on targets put in designated areas. I was 9-11 at the time living there and the most that was done to help kids understand what was going on was the air shows that the base regularly had. We saw all the cool planes and jets that were being flown in Vietnam. The Thunderbirds put on their demonstration of what the F-4 jets could do with their aerobatics.

I do remember one time going to Holly Field and watching a demonstration of how the OV-2 with its front and back props was faster and more maneuverable than most planes in Nam. They were used to spot enemy troop movement, mark it with smoke rockets and call in attack jets. I remember asking, and at 10 had no concept of protocol, the base commander that couldnt the enemy see the plane, see the smoke and just leave the area? He laughed and answered that they hoped that the attack jets would come in before they enemy left the area. My dad, who was a Tech Sergeant, wasnt happy with me asking a full bird colonel a question of military tactics.

Okay, thats my blast from the past.
