Two events happened on this day in history that without them, Kerry wouldn't be running for President. In 1782. George Washington ordered the creation of the purple heart. And on this date, in 1964, the alledged attack on an American ship in the gulf of Tonkin, started the Vietnam War. It turned what had been a civil war with American advisors training the South Vietnamese to fight, to Americans soldiers fighting the VC directly, which is why Kerry got wounded and received his 3 purple hearts
