PUBLIC DRUNKENNESS

TEXAS

A friend sent me the above article. In Texas, they want to put cops "inside" bars and arrest those who are "falling down drunk" before they get to their cars; in an effort to stop drunk driving. Some are protesting because they say they can't be arrested for drunk driving if they aren't driving when they are arrested.

We used to have something similar happening here in Montgomery concerning just one bar. I don't recall the name of it but it was near my house off the Eastern Blvd.. There was only one road to and from that bar and the cops would wait at the opposite end of that road and arrest people that were leaving the bar for drunk driving. To me and a lot of people, that's entrapment. I guess that's why people in TX are protesting cops inside the bars.

Establishments that serve alcohol usually have some sort of rules set in place if someone is getting out of control. If the behavior requires police enforcement they do have the ability to call the police. As long as that drunk doesn't get behind the wheel they are in a place where drinking is accepted. When will it end? Will the next step be entering our homes telling us what we can and can't do? I've heard numerous complaints about response times of police........don't officers have better things to do than sit in bars waiting for people to get intoxicated? How about looking for drunks actually driving?
