TOXIC
porch's said...
Someone is screwing up big time by pumping that water out. Doesn't anyone remember that one neighborhood in New Orleans was built over a toxic waste dump?
I have to admit I didn't know about this incident and I had to look it up.

The one I remember from the same time period was Love Canal, NY.
LOVE CANAL
Here in Montgomery, we have our own "Superfund" plume. It appears that back in the '40, 50s, and maybe into the '60s, downtown dry cleaners and printers were dumping their chemicals down the drain, now there is a plume that has moved north of the city and has effected a couple of neighborhoods. Those people were given the option of staying or selling their homes to the city, but not at fair market value. I have friends that live in one of the neighborhoods affected and they were told that the contamination is deep below the surface and unless they dug two feet or more below the surface, they should be safe.
