REBUILDING NEW ORLEANS

It's going to take a lot of money to rebuild New Orleans, that is true, but its money that will be spent here in the United States to help one of our cities. I don't want to sound like an isolationist but we are always rebuilding other countries.

Knowing that I'm a history buff, let me remind you of what caused the stock market to fall in 1929. Right after World War 1, the United States was committed to rebuilding Germany's industry. All the money for goods was sent to Germany, for German goods. As soon as their industry was up and running, suddenly attention turns back to the US for US good, but while Germany was rebuilding, factories and mills had cut back on their employees. Then, suddenly everyone wanted American goods and there weren't enough workers in the factories and mills to keep up with demand. Many companies folded under the pressure.

I'm not saying that rebuilding Iraq is a bad thing, as long as the US isn't neglected in the long run.
