SUPREME COURT

TEA

Bush is asking the courts to block an American Branch of a Brazilian church known by the initials U.D.V. also known as O Centro Espírita Beneficiente União do Vegetal, from importing from Brazil tea they use in their ceremonies in South America. The tea, called hoasca tea, is used as part of their religious practice, but because its a hallucinogenic, Bush wants it put under the control of the Federal Narcotics laws, even though they did allow Western tribes of Native Americans to use peyote as part of their religious ceremonies. Peyote is a wild cactus that grows in the southwestern desert.
