VA STUDENT GOES ON TRIAL

STUDENT

In one of the first cases of a person going on trial here in the United States with information gained from another country.

Ahmed Omar Abu Ali, 24, was a resident of VA when attended the University of Medina, in Saudi Arabia in 2003. While he was there, he plotted with an al-Qaeda cell, to assassinate President Bush because he is "the leader of the infidels."

It was the Saudis who arrested and questioned Ali and its the video taped deposition that is being used at his trial. Although the defense questions the method used to gain that information. They claim he was beaten until he gave the right responses. And even though its video taped, the jury is only allowed to hear the audio portion.
