MILITARY STRENGTH

Recruiting may be down, but the units themselves are actually surpassing retention goals. I will have to dig the report out, if It is still on the Times website.

Yeah, the Army is staying strong by not letting those due to retire leave. They are holding soldiers long past their retirement date and lengthening the cycle that they are in country. Believe me, I back the war and the soldiers but something has to be done to arouse that patriotic spirit we had after 9/11. It doesn't help when the Joint Chiefs of Staff announces that the number of battalions that are capable of fighting on their own dropped from 3 to 1. Especially when they say that they are training the Iraqis as fast as they can so they can take over the fight. Now the Iraqis did take the point in one of the last battles over a border town. But they need a heck of alot more soldiers like that to secure the borders and stop the influx on insurgents.
