LUNAR LANDING

if we had the technology 40 years ago to go to the moon, why is it we are not going to be able to go back until 2015?

And from all reports, it looks like the Chinese just might make it there before we do. We are so technologically superior in the space program, we should be able to get there next year with the same technology we used 40 years ago.

And why have we not been back? More so during the cold war. An unmanned base on the moon would have given us the undisputed air superiority over the Russian.

The Russians were in the race to the moon as well, and then all of a sudden they just gave up. Russians during the cold war just giving up on a race against us? It holds no logic, unless they realized that it was impossible to actually go there for a number of reasons. Remember that they beat us in every other space race endeavor except that one. They put the first animal in space, they put the first man in space, they were the first to orbit the earth, they beat us on everything except going to the moon. Does not your curiosity just make you wonder why?

RUSSIANS JUST DON'T GIVE UP!

The technology that it took to send our men to the moon is the same technology that went into a Commodore 64 computer. Also, you have to remember that back then, under Nixon, we were involved in Vietnam and actually had a balanced budget, something we don't have right now.

As for getting there next year, do you know it takes a while to design and build any type of spaceship, rocket or satellite to go into space, and the rocket to take it there and that cost money. Back in the 60's NASA was supported by the military because they thought we would gain some advantage of the Russians, but after the fall of Communism, NASA has been doing more work for private contractors.

Why did the Russians give up in the space race? Let's see. Maybe the continous fires on the Mir space station. The fact that their Economy is poor, beside they are still making flights, they just took a millionaire to the international space station. Russian spent itself into a deep hole trying to keep up with the arms race. Some of it was just propaganda, to cause the USSR to spend more money.

Correction it is not until 2018 before we get a man on the moon according to nasa on NPR this morning. 13 years!

And the kicker is that they are going to use the same method they supposedly used 40 years ago....a lunar capsule but just a little bigger attached to the top of a rocket, etc, etc, etc and then have the capsule land in the ocean just like supposedly 40 years ago.

Why not just create a vessel that would fit in the cargo space of the space shuttle and have that vessel traverse back and forth from the moon and the international space station?

Moonauts would be taken up via shuttle, dock with space station, moonauts would then board this new vessel and go to the moon, the off going moonauts would take the vessel back to the space station and then get back on board the space shuttle and go home?

Come on people, put the brains back to work and think this out....
