Could it be that Bush did this intentionally because of the concessions made by the Dems when they approved of Roberts? A little give and take? Afterall, a vast majority of the conservative bloggers are in an uproar over this nomination....And dem dems are being rather quiet....

That could possibly be the reason. The Republicans were hoping he would nominate a strong conservative and I don't think they feel they got one with Roberts so they wanted one with more proof that they support the conservative side. And since Miers hasn't sat on the bench anywhere, there isn't that paper trail showing which way she leans.
