BLAME

Now that the biggest part of the crisis is over, everyone wants to blame someone else for what happened. Well, lets go back in time, first of all, there are those who built levees and dikes to keep the Mississippi in its banks and to control flooding. But, since the beginning of time, it was that flooding that had built up the delta system. Those wet lands acted as a buffer when it came to storm surges. With those Levees and dikes, the wetleads are disappearing.

Okay then comes last week when Hurricane Katrina formed and they were saying it was headed for the Gulf coast. At one point, she was a category 5 storm, only a few have ever hit the US and those that have were devastating. The storms prediction center recommended mandatory evacuations along the Gulf coast from Pensacola to New Orleans. Then she made a bee line for New Orleans, still there was time to get people out. The mayor and police should have made arrangements to get them out, after all who better to know the citizens of New Orleans? Then the Governor should have called out the National Guard and had them on stand by so they could go in right after the storm cleared. OH, and they showed on national news all those trailer and 18 wheelers that FEMA had standing by to provide temporary shelters and supplies. SO, what happened to them after the storm?

And Homeland Security Secretary Chertoff said he didn't know until Thursday night that there were people at the Convention Center and they were in dire straights. All he had to do was turn on the tv to CNN and he would have known as early as Tuesday. So, there are many people to share the blame.

I think a lot of the blame sould also be put on the educational system. Why, especially in this day and age, aren't they teaching survival skills?
